Vintage Home Movie – Opryland USA, Nashville, Tennessee in 1979

Vintage home movie from our family archives
Take a trip down memory lane with my family as they visit the Opryland USA theme park (now defunct) in Nashville, Tennessee. This footage is from two visits.
According to Wikipedia, the music-themed Opryland USA, which was located along the Cumberland River, operated from 1972 – 1997. It had many rides, attractions, and country music shows.
Despite being successful, the new CEO decided to close the park in favor of building a large shopping mall.
The former CEO Bud Wendell, was not shy about his feelings when asked about his successor’s decision to shutter the park. He was quoted as saying- “Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen, and the people that were responsible for it, I would think today would look back on it and say, yeah, it was a dumb, dumb decision. But they felt they could get a greater return on that piece of acreage out there if it were a mall as opposed to a theme park — America’s only musical theme park.”

Film did not have sound, so I added royalty free music from the Youtube Audio Library.
