Addicted to food? The Psychology of Eating with Neuroscientist, Dr. Nicole Avena

The addiction component to food and sugar is such a big part of wellness and eating healthy, and the biggest barrier when adapting to a keto/fasting lifestyle.

There is major psychology involved in understanding why sugar is addictive.

Cancer cells feed off sugar.

We want to eat healthier, but we simply can’t. Our brains are wired and it’s difficult to change that wiring once we have been eating high carb/high sugar for so long.

Sugar affects the brain similarly to nicotine, alcohol, and even morphine. Same changes within the brain occur with sugar. These substances are regulated and warned about, whereas sugar and food are advertised and not regulated.

For people who are suffering a sugar addiction, how do you navigate in a world that is so “sugar centric”?

How do you say ‘no” I do not want your birthday cake?

How do you cope in awkward social situations and impulsive moments when you want to give in?

How can you avoid derailment?

There are some ways to beat the odds.

Based on psychology and neuroscience Nicole Avena teaches us how we can change our wiring and kick the sugar addiction once and for all.
