Enter the up-cycled universe at the Green Gallery at Turnip Green Creative Reuse
Nashville, TN — Titan Vacation, an immersive installation and shopping experience where viewers are transported to a luxury boutique on the vacation colony of Titan, opens on April 3rd. The exhibition showcases couture garments, out of this world accessories, and awe-inspiring spacemaking created by Nashville-based artists Cybelle Elena and Ellen Schlabach. This jetsetting show will take place within the unassuming walls of The Green Gallery at Turnip Green Creative Reuse, and will be open to the public for the month of April 2021.
The two artists have committed to glamour and whimsy on this one. The space transports you to another world, with appliqued tapestries draping the walls and a grandiose mirror at the center of it all. Take the time to flip through the racks of wearable art and you’ll find flowing sequined dresses, shimmering satin robes and hand painted shoes that are equally fit for galactic vacationers and today’s fashion forward trendsetters.
It is fitting that this exhibition is housed at Turnip Green Creative Reuse, as both artists have a practice rooted in elevating discarded materials. This challenging process results in pieces that evoke a sense of wonder and push viewers to envision the possibility of glamour in sustainability. The show contains elements of remnant fabric of costumes past, grandmothers broken jewelry, structures from defunct venues, and maybe, just maybe, a display case found behind a local sex shop. However, you wouldn’t know it, because Ellen and Cybelle seamlessly combine these materials to make it clear that they were meant to end up together right here, right now. Or maybe sometime in the not so distant future.
